All Saints is an Anglican church
in the benefice of Cressing and Stisted with Pattiswick and Bradwell and the diocese of
Chelmsford.
The first stone church was
built here almost exactly 800 years ago and we are taking great care to preserve the fabric of this beautiful historic building.
However, a church is much more than a building - the word
really describes the group of people who meet within it, and the purpose of their meeting.
Most of us here share a common belief in
Jesus as our Lord and Saviour - some of us are simply trying to find out more about life's truths!
If you would like to know more or to talk with the Rector or Churchwarden about any matter they will be pleased to
hear from you.
Sunday School - Sunday School is open every Sunday (except the 2nd Sunday of the month) between
10.30am and 11.30am during the service. We meet in the soundproofed south aisle of All Saints Church. Children and their parents are
welcome to join in the fun!
Stisted and Bradwell PCC News - Father John's silver jubilee celebration at All
Saint's Church was attended by over 100 people on the 28th June. A champagne reception and finger
buffet was enjoyed by the guests. A new digital organ has been on loan at All Saints Church over
the past few weeks. This has greatly helped to improve the quality of the music and singing. Partly
as a result of that we have a new member of the choir. The musical experiment has been hailed as
a great success and it seems likely that the PCC will consider the possible future purchase of
such a wonderful instrument at some future time. Work is expected to start on improvements to the
parking area later in the summer. This is much anticipated by church and nursery users, as we
have all found Church Walk prone to becoming very muddy during the wetter months. Tayrina Ferguson
Thank you from Ted Saunders - I should like to thank Fr John and all my friends
at Bradwell and Stisted for their support during my wife Audrey's long and terminal illness. It
was a great comfort to me to know that because she was on the prayer list so many people would be
praying for her. I should also like to thank those who sent cards of sympathy and to those who
offered me sympathy on the Sundays after Audrey's death. Again, another thank you to those who
were able to come to Audrey's Memorial Service on that Friday afternoon. It was lovely to see so
many friends there. I told the Minister, the Rev Nigel Warner, I did not want a solemn service but
a Service of Celebration and Thanksgiving. He gave me exactly what I wanted. I was sorry you
all had to leave as soon as the service was over as I felt my brief word of thanks was inadequate
for all the support you have given me. I count myself very fortunate indeed to have found a church
in which to worship where there is such a kind and caring congregation, and to have so many
friends still from the days when I was at Stisted School. E.J. Saunders
The churchyard at All Saints Stisted is looking better than ever. Our sincere thanks go to Mr & Mrs
Rowe and their band of volunteers who help to maintain the churchyard between 'official' grass
cuttings. We are truly grateful for their help. Fr John Corbyn
Church Flowers - I am appealing for anyone to 'Have a Go' and help us with the
church flowers at All Saints'. During Lent and Advent we do not have any flowers in the church. At all other
times, the church looks lovely due to a devoted but small group of volunteers. Some of the ladies have been
doing the flowers for many years and they feel that retirement is due. So, come on, younger ladies, your
help would be greatly appreciated!
If you would like to help, you can choose the time to
suit yourself. Maybe at a time of a special event in your life and you can give your own special touch. I
would like to thank all the ladies who have given time and flowers over the past year to make our church
look beautiful. If you would like to help, please telephone me on 01376 343300. June Roughton
Flower Festival - September 23rd-25th, 2006; see some images of the legendary weekend.
Appeal - Church Funding is critical - it costs
approximately £480 a week ro run All Saints - the Rector and Churchwardens would like to
thank all those in the Parish who
have responded so generously to appeals for funds. We have received some
fantastic donations and many pledges of regular giving. Stisted Village church
is just over 800 years old and it may seem impossible to imagine that it might
one day close, be converted for another use, or sold off...
The cost of keeping this medieval
building open is now around £24,000 per annum - excluding restoration and repairs. These
costs have to be met entirely from our own village funds. Please consider whether
it is important for you to maintain an active Church in Stisted - even if you
do not attend regularly, you may enjoy our Christmas Carol and other occasional
services and of course you may wish to be buried there or have your children
married in the church!
Bankers draft forms are available from the Secretary of
the PCC or the Churchwarden or online.
Most people contribute between £10
and £20 per month - overall less than the cost of your daily newspaper.
Church Donations - to make the most tax-efficient use of
your offering, please either:
use a yellow envelope - a supply is available from one of the Churchwardens or can be found
in the Church pews
fill out one of the confidential standing order forms (available online, from one of the Churchwardens
or via the Church notice board in the South Aisle).
Thank you!
